Get ready for another action-packed summer in the Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board area.
The local board is supporting a range of events and activities across the region to make sure you and your family can enjoy the next few months.
“We have another massive summer of events, activities, and celebrations planned for you. Our local board really values the importance of bringing people together and by supporting these events we are providing opportunities to foster, harness and enhance the amazing community spirit that exists in our local board area.”
The hugely popular Papatoetoe Santa Parade will be on December 5 with all the crowd favourites set be on show again, plus Santa Claus himself is expected to make an appearance.
The Ōtara Christmas in the Carpark will once again be in the Ōtara Town Centre car park and this year it is taking place on Saturday, 15th of December.
Plus there will be the Senior Christmas Lunches for both those from Ōtara and Papatoetoe and will be on 26th and 27th of November respectively.
Christmas on the Cres is back
The soon to be world-famous Christmas on the Cres event will begin on December 15 and runs until Christmas Eve. This week-long community celebration on Cooper Crescent in Ōtara features the street lit up in all sorts of festive paraphernalia plus a host of musical performances, activities and photo booths. Attendees are encouraged to dress according to a theme – which changes every night.
In the new year, the Movies In The Park event will be back, plus the local board’s flagship event, the Diversity Festival which showcases the area’s magnificent range of cultures, through music, food and dance. Both events’ dates and venues are still be announced so stay tuned for updates.
Lotu Fuli says people should also take advantage of the services at local pools, libraries and community centres which all run free and low-cost activities over the summer months.
“Our area has a lot to offer so let’s not take it for granted,” says Lotu Fuli.
